The clay industry began here in 1920 when the English Floyd Corporation opened a clay mine and established a factory in the village Romhány. They started the industrial production of stovetiles from the clay of Felsőpetény. Long before local craftsmen had made stovetiles and other articles for personal use. In 1949 the mine was nationalized, the production became regular. In the 70's openpit mines were opened to exploit the fireproof clay.

After 2004 a new chapter started in the life of the mine. We had to completely renew our product types. Recently we are focusing on processing and developing a new variety of clay masses for fine ceramics.
One part of fireproof clay is sold as crude clay for tile production.
Today there is no longer underground mining operation but 2 open pit mines are being continously operated.
